Finper is a personal finance platform I designed and built to help people organize their money and make better financial decisions. It brings accounts, cards and transactions together, analyzes income and expenses, and lets you plan short-term goals and track investments in one place.
It's a personal case study that covered the entire product lifecycle: research, strategy, UX, UI, branding, user testing and the development of a working app I use every day. I worked as the Product Designer and built the app with the help of Claude.
Many personal finance tools let you log transactions, but they only show what already happened.
Analyzing the top-rated apps in the category, I found:
– Fragmented experiences.
– Too much manual data entry.
– Platforms that keep day-to-day money, goal planning and investments apart.
The challenge was to design a tool that didn't just record income and expenses, but helped people understand their current financial situation and anticipate how each decision would affect the months ahead.
Based on the research, I defined the product modules, navigation flows and information hierarchy. Then I prototyped and tested with users to spot friction and refine the experience before development.
Finper brings together, in a simple and visual experience:
– Accounts and payment methods.
– Categorized transactions, including pending and recurring ones.
– A monthly summary of income, expenses and balance.
– Card spending and due dates.
– Projections and short-term goals.
– Investment tracking.
I designed the interface so data can be understood at a glance, with clear summaries and visual categories. I also created the brand and its mascot: a friendly identity that keeps users company in a topic that often causes stress.
Finally, I built the app with the help of Claude, turning the prototypes into a working product. That let me take part in every stage, from defining the problem to implementation and real-world use.
Finper went from a personal need to a working platform I now use to manage my own finances. Two other people also started using it and changed the way they manage their income: they went from not knowing where their money was going to having a clear view of their month and planning their spending.
– I brought everyday money management and financial planning together in a single experience.
– I validated the product in real-life use, both my own and other people's.
– I discovered new opportunities through daily use.
– I built a consistent, recognizable visual identity.
– I laid a scalable foundation for adding new modules.
More than a prototype, Finper is a living product that keeps evolving through use, observation and continuous improvement.
